揉腹 Rou Fu translates as "Kneading the Belly", and this is a special massage technique that originates from Shaolin Temple. It is used to cultivate inner strength. It is especially good for digestive problems, and abdominal issues, such as gas, bloating, IBS, menstrual cramps, etc. It also calms down the nervous system.

When done in a deep QiGong state it cultivates Zhong Qi (Central Qi), and allows it to permeate the fascia and mesentery. Zhong Qi is defined as the post-heaven Qi derived from food being transformed into energy by the Pi and Wei (Pancreas and Stomach). Zhong Qi is located in the Middle Jiao, which is the centre of the body, and responsible for digestion. It is a very easy, and comfortable method which can be done seated, or lying down.

Try to do this every day for a minimum of 30 minutes and for 3 months. If you do it lying down, you may fall asleep, and is actually another good method to remedy insomnia.
