A Wellness Space

Alchemy Wellness Centre is a warm, family-owned health practice that supports the Byron Bay community through personalised natural therapies. Founded in 2016 by R.J. Singer and Katrina Hillis, the clinic began in Suffolk Park before moving to a larger space on the corner of Colin Lane and Granuaille Road in the heart of Bangalow in 2021.

With roots in traditional Chinese medicine and kinesiology, we take pride in creating a calm, communicative environment where clients feel truly heard. Our mission is to support individuals in working towards improved physical and mental well-being. We tailor our approach by focusing on your unique health concerns, considering underlying factors contributing to imbalance, and developing a personalised approach to align with your health goals.

With more than 15 years of clinical practice in Chinese medicine and kinesiology, our practitioners bring extensive experience. Whether you’re dealing with stress, discomfort, or ongoing challenges, we can work with you to explore supportive options.

Health is something we take for granted until we no longer have it. We invite you to experience care that aims to restore balance, ease discomfort, and encourage long-term vitality and wellbeing.

Ms Katrina Hillis is a highly experienced and fully qualified Kinesiologist who is trained in 3 different Kinesiology lineages to Advanced Diploma level. She has been working with energy-based practices for over 20 years and has been in clinical practice as a full-time Kinesiology for over 10 years. Intuitive, empathic and compassionate, information often comes through for Katrina in the form of clairvoyance (visuals) and clairsentience (direct knowing), clairaudience (hearing), and, of course, much information is revealed with Kinesiology muscle monitoring by allowing the body and the subconscious to talk. She has committed her life to the study and application of the sacred healing arts. Alongside her Kinesiology skills, she has advanced training and many years of experience as a Psychic Reader, Multi-dimensional Channel, Remedial Bodywork Massage Therapist, Zhineng Qigong Consciousness Healer and is a practitioner of Western Astrology, Reiki, Satyananda Yoga, and Meditation.

Katrina has been fortunate to assist and serve her lovely clients and has facilitated many sessions over the years in her wellness clinics, her main practice being Alchemy Wellness Centre, Byron Bay Hinterland, established in 2016. Katrina has a very soul-centred approach to her life and to her Alchemy Kinesiology sessions. She has deep empathy and compassion for the very challenging, stressful and overwhelming experiences that we all go through at different times on our journey through life. She works with clients in their own process of self-discovery, balance, and wellbeing, and most importantly, embodying her philosophy of a soul-led life anchored in self-love, self-trust and self-sovereignty.

R.J. Singer was led to Chinese medicine after losing his brother to cancer. Witnessing his brother’s 5-year decline of pain, suffering, and eventual death deeply affected R.J. In the aftermath, he was filled with anger, depression, and self-destructive behaviour. During that time, he was diagnosed with the digestive autoimmune condition ulcerative colitis. After a period of grieving and the realisation that he no longer recognised the person in the mirror, he went looking for answers and began searching for a path back from the void to happiness, fulfilment, and well-being.

That path began with reading the Tao Te Ching. A simple book of 81 short passages that resonated so deeply, he went searching for teachers to explore Taoism. On his path back to happiness and fulfilment, he was introduced to Chinese medicine through QiGong, martial arts, and Taoist philosophy. He started his mentorship in California through his Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Henry Han, who encouraged him to enrol in Chinese medical school. This passion took a strong hold on R.J., who gave up his career as a horse trainer and farmer to go back to school and study TCM full-time.

Dr. R.J. Singer (Chinese Medicine)

After completing his studies, Dr. R.J. Singer did a residency in Beijing at The National Tibetan Hospital, where he worked in the TCM department under Dr. Wang Fan, Master of the Zhen Dao (needle knife). The Zhen Dao is a specialised TCM surgical tool and technique used to cut and release adhesions and scar tissue in the body to address discomfort related to musculoskeletal conditions.

He did an additional residency at Xi Yuan Hospital in Beijing in the Medical Qigong department under Doctor Xu Hongtao. There, he taught and led medical Qigong and meditation to inpatients and outpatients. RJ then did an additional short-term internship in the TCM department at LongFu Hospital in Beijing.

He and his wife Katrina returned to China, where they studied ZhiNeng QiGong from teachers of the Hua Xia Centre (A.K.A. Medicine-less Hospital). They became certified teachers and therapists of ZhiNeng QiGong.

Before moving to Byron Bay, R.J. owned and operated Chinese Medicine clinics in Erskineville, Marrickville, and Clovelly, where he focused on working with clients experiencing ongoing health challenges and pain.

R.J. attributes much of his clinical results to years of mentorship with phenomenal practitioners, physicians, and healers. His most influential mentors have been Dr. Daniel Deng in Sydney, who is highly regarded for his distal and microsystem acupuncture techniques. R.J. apprenticed under him for 4 years. R.J. has studied continuously with Dr. Jimmy Chang for over 10 years in his Pulsynergy system of pulse reading, developed in Taiwan.

R.J. has also undergone extensive teaching and clinical instruction by Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan in the renowned balance method and Dr. Wei Chieh Young in the Master Tung system of acupuncture, which he has been a practitioner of for his entire career. He also studied and trained in Zhu Scalp acupuncture with its creator, Dr. Ming Qing Zhu.

A journey that began more than twenty years ago, starting from tragedy, continues to be one of astonishing fulfilment, dedication, and devotion. During that time, he has found happiness, managing his own health challenges, including ulcerative colitis, and has had the privilege of working with many clients with various health conditions.
